Abstract: | The levitron is a device that uses a repulsive magnetic field to suspend a spinning magnet above a set of static magnets. The spin of the magnet counteracts the tendency to be unstable. In this demonstration the levitron remains suspended for around 40 seconds before losing stability. An explanation of how the device works can be found at http://www.levitron.com/physics.html. |
