Abstract: For over one hundred years Cambridge has consistently produced many of the most influential thinkers and teachers in philosophy. This lecture sketches some of the glories of the philosophical tradition at Cambridge, and explores the meaning of philosophy in the modern university setting.

Simon Blackburn is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Trinity College.
