While global attention has been focussed on the coronavirus epidemic, with perhaps a glance or two at Hong Kong and the South China Seas, the PRC has taken a dramatic step in the Himalayas. The move has its regional roots in the geo-economic clash between India is reacting to being surrounded by Pakistan and China. More broadly, it suggests that an embattled Beijing is trying to break a perceived 'ring of encirclement' around the PRC. To discuss this dangerous development, the Centre for Geopolitics has assembled a distinguished panel. They will ask whether the key antagonism here is between India and Pakistan, or between India and China? Given China's dominance of the Indian market, what is the balance between economic and strategic factors? Is this a new Geopolitics of Corona, or simply the latest manifestation of a long-established strategic fault-line? Is a new Asian balance of power in the making?
