Description: The first seminar in March 1976 was on the interpretation of public rituals, and in particular Carnival.
It was sponsored by the Social Sciences Research council as a series of four seminars on 'History and Anthropology', convened by Alan Macfarlane. The first and last were filmed by the Audio Visual Aids Unit of the University of Cambridge under the direction of Martin Gienke. They were edited by Martin Gienke and Sarah Harrison. It was held in King's College, Cambridge.
