Jane: Now don't make the same mistake as a certain person I won't name. Chopped the tree right in the middle, wasted all the stump. Cut it way down to the ground. Then remember that we need to strip all the bark off, all the side shoots, all the branches, it's a long job. Off you go to the forest.

Boy: That's a big tree (pretends to be cutting).

Boy 2: Go and make a piece of wood then, well done.

Jane: That's it. Have you cut our hand? Ah yes, that's where everyone cuts them. Go down to the river, just give it a good wash. (Jane walks away, then walks back to her) You could put some.... Just a minute, Helga, there's some woundwort growing by the river, the plant that is good for cuts, go and gather some woundwort, rub it into the cut.

Boy: And, well, we need the bottom base of the ship.

Jane: The keel or the keelson?

(Boy runs to ask)

Jane (to three girls): The ropes that Helga has made are half done. She has cut her hand badly. Do you think you can finish them for me?

(The girls nod yes.)

Jane, looking at one girl's hands: How are your hands doing? Ooh yes, a bit sore aren't they? The best thing for that is the woundwort that grows by the river. You know the tall plant with the green leaves, the woundwort? Bind your hand with that, and then they won't be so sore.

Boy: To make the cargo hold.

Jane: Right, go and ask Brusi what's the best thing for it.

Girl: We're going to pick some leaves to put on our hands.

Jane: Right, have you bound them round with a cloth? That's the best way. Put the leaf on the cut and bind the cloth round it. Then it won't come off.

Jane (to three boys): This is not holding it at all. The whole thing is wobbly. Can you get some wooden pegs, and drive them in, really hard?
