Abstract: Specialist teacher Jane Bower leads children at Abbey Meadows Primary School through a drama reliving a marketplace on the penultimate day of Pompeii, later using the lesson to create an interpretive dance. Ms Bower then teaches the children to create batik fabrics, which the children show they have made into colourful images of Mount Vesuvius. The children’s exploration of Pompeii continues with History Off the Page, which helps them create a Pompeian forum where goods are made, traded and sold. The lessons conclude with a visit to the British Museum, where the children perform their interpretive dance and see the exhibit, “Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum.”
