Abstract: - Dialogic intention -
For students to discuss, and agree, contributions to make as a group to Talkwall

- Subject and topic -
Science (space exploration)

- Video Description -
In a lesson about space exploration, students had to read information about NASA and the UK Space Agency and decide ‘what is this telling us?’ and ‘what might this mean for UK space exploration?’.

The teacher has divided the screen by selecting the ‘Horizontal Line’ option in Talkwall. Students are instructed in their groups to discuss, and agree, two contributions to make to Talkwall. Both of these contributions are to relate to the questions posed, and students are to indicate which question they are addressing by using hashtags (either #telling or #explore) in their responses. Finally, students are instructed to put #telling contributions above the horizontal line and #exploring contribution below the horizontal line.

Students were also given a talk objective card to emphasis the dialogic intention of this task.

- How does Talkwall support this? -
The use of a Talkwall background with a horizontal line enables students to organise their contributions. The hashtag feature in Talkwall could have been used as a filtering mechanism (i.e. allowing filtering of contributions by subject - either #telling or #explore) should the teacher have wanted to do so.
