Abstract: The brain is a directed weighted graph with neurons as nodes and synapses as edges. The structure of the graph determines the dynamics of neural activity. At the same time, correlations in neural activity determine synaptic weights. The grand challenge of neuroscience is to construct a theory relating neural structure and dynamics to computation. I will present our progress towards this goal using an online matrix factorization framework.
