Abstract: | First I discuss anomalies in heterotic compactifications. I argue that anomalies will generically not be universal, and illustrate this point by an explicit example of a heterotic orbifold blowup. Then, I investigate the origin of discrete (R and non-R) symmetries on smooth Calabi-Yau manifolds via an GLSM approach. |
