Description: An information session on the application process for the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowships. These are open to recent PhDs and to postdocs within 5 years of submitting their PhD.

The speakers were Professor Jon Parry (Newton Trust), Adam Steenkamp (Research Office) and Dr Jenna Ng (current Leverhulme Early Career Fellow). We are very grateful to the speakers for allowing us to record this session for the benefit of those unable to attend.

"Departments send around 40 applications (total across the arts / humanities) to the Newton Trust. The Newton Trust selects around 20 of these to support… Of these, 4 or 5 are ultimately funded by the Leverhulme Trust."

"The deadline of January might seem a long way off, but there is a lot to do between now and then."

"You do battle with the online application system. Leave enough time for this."

"The keyword is 'justify'. Why you, why here, why this project, why now?"

"Applying for grants is a long, hard slog: you need to take it seriously. Having said that, don't take it too seriously - if you don't get this one, something else will come up."
